Shooting Leagues
Our chapter offers a number of competition leagues during warmer months for members to test their shooting skills.
Monthly Rifle League (April through September)
Bring your old .22 pump, lever, bolt or semi-auto; your brand-new Ruger 10/22 Space Gun; or your center fire carbine (M1 Carbines are allowed). Matches will be held on the second Wednesday of each month, from 4:30 p.m. to dusk, through October, at the pistol range.
We fire the NRA National Gallery Pistol course (we allow more time for bolt action rifles) for a total of 30 rounds per relay. There are two courses of fire; “iron” sights at 25 yards and optical “anything goes” equipment at 50 yards. You can shoot either or both courses in rim fire or center fire or both. The rifle must be held off-hand (no external support); slings are allowed. There is a nominal cost per relay to cover the costs of targets, awards, etc.
Weekly Outdoor Pistol League (April through September)
The Outdoor Pistol League holds matches every Tuesday from 4:30 p.m. until dusk from April through September.
The League fires the modified NRA National Gallery Pistol course at 25 yards which is ten rounds slow fire (10 rounds in ten minutes) on an NRA B2 target, ten rounds timed fire (5 rounds in 20 seconds, two times) and ten rounds rapid fire (5 rounds in 10 seconds, two times) on NRA B3 targets. The participants alternate these 30-shot relays between .22 rim fire and center fire (.32 caliber or larger) pistols. Participants may shoot either or both types of pistols.
Weekly Indoor Air Pistol League (September through April)
The indoor Air Pistol League starts in the fall at the Chapter House on Tuesday evenings from 4:00 pm to 7:00 p.m. Chapter pistols are available. This is a great way to learn or maintain one’s pistol shooting skills. This is a handicap (scoring) league, so new shooters are rewarded for improving their scores.
Monthly Muzzleloader League (April through September)
Muzzleloader matches will be held on the first Wednesday of each month starting in April. Start time is 4:30 p.m. at the pistol range. Chapter membership is not required.
You may shoot multiple relays in any combination of the following categories
- 50 feet: Pistols or revolvers, “iron” sights only, single-handed hold
- 25 yards: Percussion, flintlock, or in-line rifles, “iron” sights only. Handguns with a two-handed hold are allowed in this category
- 50 yards: Same equipment as used at 25 yards except any type of sights are allowed. This could be an in-line muzzleloader fitted with a scope, red dot, etc.
All relays will be 10 shots in 40 minutes, unsupported, slings allowed, using NRA B-2 Slow Fire pistol targets at 50 feet and 25 yards; and NRA B-3 Timed and Rapid Fire Pistol targets at 50 yards. 775 caliber (10 gauge) maximum. If a person shoots multiple relays in a category in one match, the best score will be kept. Cost is $2.00 per relay for targets, awards, etc.
