Our chapter has taught hunter safety classes since 1956. Since 1977, the State of Maryland has required that all first-time hunters successfully complete a hunter education class prior to being issued a hunting license.

The introduction of this requirement has dramatically reduced the number of hunting accidents in Maryland. Our State certified instructors teach a class approved by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources which includes: hunter responsibility, firearms and ammunition, firearm handling and safety, marksmanship and shooting fundamentals, principles of wildlife management, bow hunting, muzzleloader hunting, safety and first aid, water safety, and Maryland legal requirements.

Our Chapter has provided this training to over 2,400 Maryland residents.

Course availability is listed on the Maryland DNR’s Website.
